The Swisher County Appraisal District has decided to do our part in keeping our employees, and the public safe by limiting person-to-person contact as recommended by the CDC. We will be locking the door to our lobby effective March 20, 2020. While our door may be locked, we will still be here! We will be open our normal hours, and ready to handle your questions or requests via phone call, mail/email, or the locked drop box just inside our first door.

Within this site you will find general information about the District and the ad valorem property tax system in Texas, as well as information regarding specific properties within the district.

Swisher Appraisal District is responsible for appraising all real and business personal property within Swisher County. The district appraises property according to the Texas Property Tax Code and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practices (USPAP).

Swisher Appraisal District is responsible for the fair market appraisal of properties within each of the following taxing entities:

City of Tulia Tulia ISD
City of Happy Happy ISD
City of Kress Kress ISD
Swisher Memorial Hospital District Swisher County
Mackenzie Municipal Water Authority  


The duties of the appraisal district include:

  • The determiniation of market value of taxable property
  • The administration of exemptions and special valuations authorized by the local entities and the State of Texas

Tax rates and ultimately the amount of taxes levied on property are determined by governing bodies of each of the taxing authorities. Mineral, utility, and industrial accounts are appraised for the district by Pritchard & Abbott, Inc. in Dallas, Texas. Real estate and personal property accounts are appraised locally by the district.
